What did you think was the inspiration behind this film?

I have at a minimum one personal project Digital World that I am working on at any given moment. I typically take a break for a couple of weeks in winter time to go on a ski trip. I’m a big fan of skiing, however this year I was determined to leave the slopes and get into the mountains more thoroughly. It may sound video production company near me like a lot of cheesy music, but I was trying to get in touch with the natural world and the mountain surroundings. The mountains are a place which is usually viewed as threatening and threatening. My camera is along with me everywhere I go, and I thought that capturing that solitude of being in the mountains could make a wonderful idea for a short film.

What did your set-up appear to be?

This image was taken with an Sony A7sII and a variety of Canon lenses, including 16-35mm F4L IS, 24-105mm F4L ISO, 50mm F1.4 85mm F1.8. I also brought a small Manfrotto tripod for travel and an Zhiyun Technology Crane, a handheld Gimbal. This Zhiyun Crane is my new most used piece of kit for filmmaking It’s light and simple to set up and, with the correct combination of camera and lens it produces stunningly smooth footage.

Being on foot in mountain ranges meant that a a lighting equipment was vital. Everything must fit in one backpack. It is essential to have all spare batteries and cards, etc. since you won’t be able to find spares!

Did you apply any filters on your lens? What was the lighting configuration like?

I utilized the Tiffen Variable ND quite a bit because the high altitude and bright sunlight makes it necessary to use ND to make sure that your that your footage doesn’t get over exposed, particularly movie studios when shooting using an FF sensor that has fast glass. Since a majority of photos were mountain views with wide vistas I relied on only the Digital World light available. That meant that patience and timing were essential. The majority of the shots were taken at sunset to take advantage of the soft flattering lighting (even even though the film was graded with a distinct cold blue tones). In a couple of macro and close-up shots , I used a tiny LED light to provide some energy into the shadows and show some of the texture on the frozen snow.

What did you do in the direction of the process of location Scouting?

Old compass and map stuff really. I like going off into the backcountry to see what I can find. If I came across a place I was interested in, I took a picture or took a note of it to return to shoot it when the lighting was better.

How was the method for setting up, getting the best shot, framing, etc?
